Jump Through the Hoop Turkeywork
Turkeywork stitch variations are the traditional way to create fur and fur trim on needlepoint canvases. This version of turkeywork is easy to work, although unlike Sheena's diagram, I tend to work it from the bottom up. I think it hides the tiny stitch at the base of each loop better that way. I recommend a wool or wool-silk blend for this stitch as these threads fluff up nicely.
Once you fill your area with rows of the stitch, you cut each loop. Then trim the loops to the desired height. I work slowly, trimming, brushing the area, trimming again, etc. You may wish to cover the areas close to the turkeywork so you don't get fuzz on them. You can also use masking tape or blue painters tape to carefully lift off any fuzz after you are finished trimming.
