Small Ray Stitch
Small Ray Stitch is another good grass stitch, especially if you want clumps of weeds here and there in your grass. You could also use it for leaves at the base of a tiny flower.
As you can see on the right side of the diagram, Sheena intended this to be used as small plants in a grassy area, but it would also work as scales on a dragon or snake. The tent stitches behind the small rays are optional. However, if you plan to use both tent and ray stitches, it's probably easier to tent stitch the whole area first, then add the ray stitches on top. To add this process, use slightly lighter weight threads than normal and a needle with a sharp tip when you add the rays since a sharp needle will slide between the tent stitches easier than a blunt tapestry needle.
